🔸 What is Tteokbokki?
Tteokbokki is a beloved Korean street food made with chewy rice cakes in a spicy, sweet, and savory gochujang-based sauce. It’s commonly enjoyed as a snack or light meal and is easy to prepare at home.
✅ Ingredients (Serves 2–3)
- 300g Korean rice cakes (tteok)
- 150g fish cakes (eomuk), sliced
- 2 cups water (or anchovy broth for more flavor)
- 1 boiled egg (optional)
- 1 stalk green onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
- 1 teaspoon gochugaru (optional)
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
🥄 Instructions
- Prepare the Rice Cakes: If your tteok is refrigerated or frozen, soak it in warm water for 10–15 minutes to soften before cooking.
- Make the Sauce: In a bowl, mix gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and gochugaru. Stir until smooth.
- Cook the Tteokbokki: In a pan, add 2 cups of water and the sauce. Bring to a boil. Add rice cakes and fish cakes. Simmer 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Final Touches: Add green onions and boiled egg during the last 2 minutes. Drizzle with sesame oil.
- Serve: Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with sesame seeds. Enjoy hot!
